3.7 Periphery
Often they are regarded by the car driver as annoying and costly padding, the filter and the exhaust system. But if they fail, may be even unnoticed, this can have expensive consequences. If intaken dust cloggs the filter, e.g., because we tried to economize the maintenance, this can lead to a higher fuel consumption and the damage of the motor by higher operation temperatures. The exhaust system of modern cars is a multifunction device with its catalytic converter. As far as only a small hole develops there exists, like in former times, the chance of a repair. However the noise bothers our environment. The failure of the catalytic converter can as well raise the fuel consumption as affecting the ambience. Then the legislator is not amused. A further operation requires an expensive exchange.
The „healthiness“ of our gas turbine especially depends from a correct function of the filters. Blocked or bypassed filters can cause an increasing fuel consumption and lead to a shortening of the lifetime of the expensive hot parts.
Not functioning exhaust sites can act back at the gas turbine. Additional too high emissions alarm the authorities.
